The Prophetic Messages of Our Lady of Akita

Our meditation today arises from the approved apparition of Our Lady of Akita, Japan from June 12, 1973 until Sept. 15, 1981. It began with 101 instances of a statue of Mary bleeding and weeping. Sr Agnes Sasagawa then received visions of an angel and messages from Mary, the Mother of God and Our Mother. Bishop John Ito approved this apparition on April 22, 1984, after years of extensive investigation. The Context into which we must situate the Apparition of Mary in Akita is the cosmic struggle between the Mary and the Devil. This struggle begins with the prophecy in Genesis 3:15 that in the end the Woman would crush the head of Satan. It is found again in the Book of Revelation chapter 12

Evangelical Suffering: The Martyrdom of Blessed Miguel Pro

Miguel Augustin Pro Juarez was ordained a Priest in Belgium on August 31, 1925. Already by 1926, however, due to his poor health, Fr. Miguel’s superiors sent him back to his homeland of Mexico. Any priest the police came across was thus subject to arrest and prosecution” (Ball, Modern Saints: Book One, 300). For some time, Fr. Miguel maintained a secret ministry, blessing the people of his homeland by covertly administering the sacraments to them. Eventually, however, Fr. Miguel was arrested. On November 13, 1927, an assassination

And when Jesus offered himself back to the Father for our sake, he didn’t merely deal with the consequences of sin. Rather, he struck at the root of suffering – Original Sin – the sin of Adam. But he did it in a way that seems crazy in the eyes of the world. He took the very consequences of sin – suffering and death – experienced them as one of

The Reality of Suffering & the Hope of Salvation

It has been said that Christianity is not an electric blanket that coddles or warms a person gently to sleep. In reality, it is a cross that each and every one of us must bear. “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it" (Matthew 16:24). It has been said that Christianity is not an electric blanket that coddles or warms a person gently to sleep. In reality, it is a cross that each and every one of us must bear. Sacrifice, suffering, and death—these are essential in our journey toward salvation, and they are at the heart of what it means to be a di
